He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in Economics from Michigan State University, and his B.A. in Economics from Grove City College. Dr. Melnik’s research interests include public and urban economics, especially local public finance and political economy. His research has studied how political partisanship affects the distribution of state government expenditures, how negative labor demand shocks affect local public finance decisions, and how ballot structure influences voting behavior.
